After the fire that broke out at the world’s biggest biomass power station, Friends of the Earth Scotland have said that the fire at the Essex facility which is the biggest biomass plant in Britain has highlighted the risks about the activities that take place there.
There were more than 100 fire fighters at the fire battling it and trying to put it out. According to sources down at the plant, the fire could take days to bring under control after it broke out at a fuel in one of the fuel storage areas at the plant, which lies next to the Thames in Essex.
According to the Chief Fire Officer at the scene the fire involves around 4,000 – 6,000 tonnes of biomass which is high up in the building. Biomass is just pellets that are made up of compacted sawdust or other wood waste.
